Pradosh Vrat, also known as Pradosham, is a sacred fasting day dedicated to Lord Shiva, observed twice a month on the Trayodashi (13th day) of each lunar fortnight. This auspicious day is believed to cleanse sins, remove obstacles, and bring divine blessings.

Types of Pradosh Vrat & Benefits

Shani Pradosh (Saturday): Reduces Saturn-related doshas, brings career growth and stability.
Som Pradosh (Monday): Brings peace, family harmony, and good health.
Guruvara Pradosh (Thursday): Enhances wisdom, prosperity, and spiritual knowledge.

Significance of Pradosh Vrat

Pradosh Kaal (the twilight period around sunset) is considered highly auspicious for worshipping Lord Shiva. According to Hindu mythology:

It is the time when Lord Shiva performed the Tandava, his cosmic dance.
Devas (gods) approached Lord Shiva during this period to seek help in their battle against Asuras (demons), reinforcing its significance as a time of divine intervention.
Observing this vrat is believed to fulfill desires, remove past karma, and bring spiritual upliftment.

Pradosh Vrat Rituals (Vidhi)

Fasting: Devotees observe a fast from sunrise until after the evening puja. Some keep a strict water-only fast, while others consume fruits or light meals.
Evening Puja: The most important time for worship is during Pradosh Kaal (approximately 72 minutes before and after sunset).
Shiva Abhishek: The Shiva Lingam is bathed with milk, honey, ghee, curd, and water while chanting “Om Namah Shivaya” and the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra.
Offerings: Devotees present bael leaves, flowers, incense, and deepams (lamps) to Lord Shiva.
Temple Visit: Worshipping Nandi, the sacred bull of Shiva, is an essential part of Pradosh Vrat traditions.
